Making My Dream Short Horror Film
Donation protected
Hiiii :) My name is Tai, and I'm a college senior working on my thesis film. I'm planning on making a horror movie, and I'm using this opportunity to not only design and apply makeup to create a unique and original creature but also act as said creature, a la the great Lon Chaney! That being said, any funds raised here will go towards the highest quality makeup to help me achieve this feat and also gear, crew, and cast so that we can make the best short film possible. hi I'm Tai :) I have to make a short film for my thesis class and rather than create some garbage to get out, I'm using this as an opportunity to express myself creatively and make a short film heavily inspired by the films I grew up with and loved. I'll likely never do this again, so I'm going to make sure I do it right, create something I love, and go out with a bang. Growing up, two of my all-time favorite movies were The Fly and The Thing. The suspense kept you on the edge of your seat, and the special effects makeup was so expertly crafted. I could literally go on all day about how iconic the special effects were, but we're not here to talk about that. The point is, seeing movies like that and then growing up watching the great Doug Jones effortlessly act as a fish man (twice!) and learning about Lon Chaney who not only acted as monstrous creatures but designed and applied the makeup on himself, created a dream. I want to create a creature, apply the makeup onto myself, and hone my inner Doug Jones to act as that creature in a horror movie and scare the crap out of people! Considering how large Hollywood has grown to be and how there are now more than enough makeup artists to take care of the makeup aspect of things, that's not the most realistic dream, but I'm using this thesis as an opportunity to make it come true for myself. Doug Jones getting a touch up on set of "Hellboy". I still don't understand how this man believably acts as creatures that don't exist in our world but I'm gonna try my best to do the same! Lon Chaney with his makeup kit that he used to transform himself into the Phantom of the Opera. Ngl I'm jealous of that little caboodle he's got but anyways, this man is one of my heroes and I can't wait to do my own makeup like he did! This was the very first initial drawing I had for what I wanted my creature to look like. I have a million and one revised versions of this but still no makeup to fully test it out :( Now that's where you come in; the makeup needed to bring my vision to life isn't exactly cheap, especially if I want to do this right. Furthermore, what's a great creature without a good film? To make the whole thing watchable and enjoyable, I'll need to rent some space, good audio equipment, a camera and lenses, lighting, and most importantly, the most talented crew and cast to help me bring my vision to life. Thank you so much for your time and any assistance provided! <3
