Making Driving Safe for People with Diabetes

Donation protected
We need your help.
Driving demands constant attention—every second brings new challenges from the road, other drivers, and changing conditions. Now, imagine adding the risk of a low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) episode—a sudden drop in blood sugar that can cause dizziness, blurred vision, and impaired judgment.

For the millions of people worldwide living with insulin requiring diabetes, this is a daily reality. This risk significantly increases the chances of a motor vehicle accident, which can lead to serious injury for yourself or others, and at the very least, costly property damage. Studies show that 72% of people with Type1 Diabetes (T1D) experience low blood sugar while driving, even those using Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs). Shockingly, 4% have reported accidents due to these dangerous episodes.

Introducing Diabetes Driving Pal: A Safety Net for Drivers with Diabetes

To address this critical issue, we’ve created Diabetes Driving Pal, a mobile app designed to make driving safer for people with diabetes. This app acts as a real-time guide, alerting you when your blood sugar is dropping and advising when to snack to avoid reduced focus and impaired ability to drive.

This multi-layered approach is designed to keep drivers safe, helping prevent accidents, injuries, and potentially save lives.

Why We Need Your Support:
We’re in the process of developing Diabetes Driving Pal, and we need your help to bring this accident prevention tool to insulin requiring diabetes drivers everywhere.

We’re raising $20,000 to:
  • Complete the app’s development and refine its features.
  • Conduct real-world testing to ensure it is reliable and user-friendly.
  • Launch the app to help people with diabetes drive more safely.
