Making a difference to children

Tax deductible
You can make a difference by donating today to All As One UK. AAO saves the lives of orphaned and abandoned children in Freetown, Sierra Leone. In a nation where thousands of children are left to survive on their own, AAO is a vibrant Children's Centre that feeds, educates and cares for about 180 children every day.

(Google Chrome and Firefox are generally the most reliable browsers for donations. You may have issues with other browsers.)

In the Centre, we provide round-the-clock care for over 40 children in our care. For many of our children, this is the first sense of having a home that they have experienced. We provide specific help to these children, including shelter, good nutrition, medical care and education. In addition to these children, we have also enrolled around 150 children in our government-accredited Academy. We offer education to the children living at the Centre and children from the surrounding area. We offer one meal a day for the community children, along with preschool, kindergarten, primary and junior secondary education in English, maths, literature, social studies, science, arts, and PE. All our paid staff in Sierra Leone are from the local community.

We also have a small, professionally staffed medical clinic for our own children’s needs and for families in the local community. We provide preventative intervention and medical treatment where needed. We average 200-300 requests for medical and educational assistance each month, and we help each family as much as possible within our available resources.

Here is what donations can buy:
  • £7 buys a dozen eggs from a local farmer. A box of 6 dozen eggs that last us two days per week costs £42.
  • £10 buys bread for all the children for a day.
  • £20 for fish for one meal – we often have fish five days a week as it’s a cheaper form of good protein for the children.
  • £30 buys a 50kg bag of rice – we use 15 bags a month
  • £35 for chicken for one meal – we try to give the children chicken twice a week.
  • £75 buys enough vegetables for two meals for all the children.
  • £120 buys water for drinking, cooking and washing for a week. £450 will buy an extra-large storage tank for water to have a better supply.

Items not needed to be purchased every day or week:
  • £30 will buy a school chair for our Academy. £40 will buy a desk.
  • £75 will buy a mattress or a large food storage container.
  • £225 will replace dinnerware and utensils or provide a laptop (essential for our senior school and university students) or a whiteboard for a classroom.
  • £300 will provide a sizeable industrial cooking stove or pot.
  • £450 for a bale of used clothing – we buy 5-6 bales every six months.

Below are some of our children and their stories:

Here is Mariama, who is starting her first year of college in the engineering programme at the University of Sierra Leone. It is unusual for a girl to do engineering in the country, so we are incredibly proud of Mariama. Here is what she says about All As One:
“I came to All As One in 2010 when I was 8 years old. I am now 19. All As One has taken care of me for 11 years now. And when I was young, I never thought I would ever go to college. But, through the help of All As One, I thank God because I have been able to go to school, pass my exams, and now I am in University. I appreciate everything that All As One has done for me!”

Below is Steven; the small photograph is of him when he arrived at the Children’s Centre, aged around 18 months.

Meet Isatu.

Below are Alie and Maliki. Alie has been with us ten years since he was 1 year old, and Maliki has been with us a few months. Alie is very clever, playful, and one of the best football players in school. He’s a shy boy who is embarrassed because he stammers but is doing well in school and loves to study – he’s a whizz at maths! Maliki is learning English and Krio (his first language is Mende). He loves going to school, and as soon as he’s finished breakfast, he collects his book and rushes off to class. Like Alie, Maliki’s favourite subject is maths. The boys have become best friends. Alie is like a big brother to Maliki and has been helping him develop his football skills.

Thank you for donating to help the children of All As One - we appreciate every penny we get. Everyone outside Sierra Leone involved with the charity does so as a volunteer, so absolutely every donation counts - we use as much as possible of your gift to benefit the children and families needing our help.
