Makiki Fire Victims- Patti and Danny Ching

On Thursday 23 February 2023, we lost two of the most wonderful people we knew in the Makiki Fire in Honolulu, HI - my grandparents, Patti and Danny. Unfortunately, a large fire broke out and tore through their two-story home where they lost their lives.

Our family is completely devastated and heartbroken. Living in Singapore for the past 15 years, I barely got the chance to meet them, especially with the Covid lockdown. But the time I got to spend with them was something I treasured the most. They were funny, caring, and the most loving people I've ever had the fortune of knowing.

Patti, my grandmother, would always bring my confidence up when I was feeling low and loved telling me the story of how they were high school sweethearts. Danny, my grandfather, would always tell me stories of his days spent serving in the Vietnam War and show me new tricks he had been working on with their puppy, Te'a.

As I am writing this now, memories of the brief time our family has spent together still hits me hard.

Any funds raised here will go toward their funeral services and bringing the family together to say goodbye to them one last time. In addition, proceeds will also help contribute towards organizing an educational program for the local Kapuna on fire safety awareness.
