Maki's Emergency Vet Visit Costs
Donation protected
THANK YOU SO MUCH! To everyone who has shared and donated. We were able to raise enough funds for the vet costs and associated fees here, and are so so grateful. All of our love! - Stephie, Nike, and Maki

I'm Stephie, and my wife Nike and I are hoping you'll consider helping us with the unexpected cost of our dear fuzzy daughter's emergency vet bills.

This is Maki (short for Caramel Macchiatto!) She's an adorable 10 year old sweetie who loves spending her time in sun spots or finding any other means possible to be warm. She loves plants and birds, and spends her days lounging around and visiting them.
Maki's other greatest love is chicken!
Which is how we ended up in this mess, as through an accident she managed to get into old garbage and eat spoiled garlic seasoned chicken - making her very sick indeed. Due to the danger of garlic toxicity, and being unable to confirm if anything else was consumed, our vet urged us to take her directly to the hospital.
Just the cost of the emergency visit so far has run us over $1,000 today, and we expect the treatment/medications to reach beyond that before we are able to bring her home. Additionally, the preliminary blood work did not confirm or deny the garlic toxicity, and the vet noted additional blood work may be needed in another week if she is not improving. An obstruction was also found in her stomach, and she was sent home overnight to see if it would pass without surgical intervention.
[UPDATE 11.14] Maki was seen for her followup appointment, x-ray, and bloodwork Saturday. This visit was just under $400. Thankfully the obstruction is gone, and the lab work is still showing no sign of garlic toxicity. Medication was prescribed and we are monitoring her at home. Further blood work may be required in a few days if she has not improved. Maki is home though, and does seem to be feeling better!
We are a single income family since Covid hit and Nike (who is an amazing BIPOC artist) has lost a significant amount of income already due to canceled art shows.
Maki is our world, and we've poured all the money we currently have into covering the up front cost so they would treat her. But this will leave us short on money for rent/bills/food this month.
Thank you so much for considering helping us! We don't know what we would do without her, and any little bit we will be eternally grateful for.
Thank you so much!

We've been able to pay the up front cost of the treatment only by using money which would have gone to our monthly bills/rent/food. So any help as soon as possible will be very much appreciated.

All funds from the fundraiser will go towards the cost of Maki's veterinary bill. If funds exceed the cost of the bill for some reason, we will donate the remainder to a local non-profit animal shelter.
