On May 12th, 2017, 13 year old Mackenzie Myers was hit by a vehicle on Presqueisle Street in Philipsburg PA. Due to her serious injuries, she was flown by Life Flight to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville PA where she has undergone many test and medical examinations. It has been determined that Mackenzie suffered 5 fractures in her pelvis which will not require surgery, but that will require at least 6 weeks to heal. She also suffered from a severe concussion that has affected her short term memory, and could lead to multiple side effects including depression, headaches, lack of concentration, and so on. It was also discovered that she has a blood spot on her brain which the Doctors hope will evaporate on its own in time, and multiple lacerations to her right leg which required over twenty stitches. Once medically cleared, Mackenzie will be transferred to UPMC in Pittsburgh to undergo rehab for two to three weeks.
While the family has medical insurance, being that their insurance is through UPMC, only $5,000 of the costs that are incurred at Geisinger will be covered by their insurance. On top of that, they will have to cover their $2,500 deductible once she is transferred to UPMC. Besides the major medical expenses, the family will incur many additional expenses including, lodging, food, gas, missed work, etc. They also have four other children ages 19, 17, 13 (Mackenzie's twin sister), and 4 to care for and the everyday living expenses that go along with raising a family.
As proud hard working people, the family was reluctant to ask for help, but I was able to get their permission to open a Go Fund Me account to try and help them out with the large amount of expenses that will be incurred. This family and these girls are loved by so many, and we want them to be able to focus on Mackenzie’s recovery and well-being, and not worry about the cost as much. Please, if you can help this family out with a donation, it would mean so much to them. Any amount counts, so even if you don’t have a lot to donate, it all adds up in the end. If you are unable to donate, simple thoughts and prayers are also welcomed and will be very much appreciated.
The most important thing of all is that Mackenzie is still with us, and she will be able to heal in time. God bless Mackenzie, the Myers family, and all of their friends and family that have sent countless thoughts and prayers their way.
