Hi, I’m Mariah - I’m Makenna’s mom. Makenna is an 8 month old who has an already chronic cough being treated as asthma and reflux (still unsure of a true diagnosis at this time). She fell sick on Wednesday August 31st, 2022 and became really lethargic on Friday September 2nd, 2022. On Saturday September 3rd, we went to the emergency department where she was treated with IV fluids, steroids, nebulizers, and we were sent on our way. By Tuesday September 6th, Makenna was still not breathing correctly. She began grunting to breathe and was still fighting off a nasty fever. We went to the emergency department again, and we’re admitted to Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital - Makenna has remained inpatient since then. We are still anticipating a few more days, and Makenna’s pulmonologist is ordering a plethora of different tests for when she is discharged, whenever that may be. I was lucky enough to still have a few days of PTO left, and some bonding time left - as Makenna was born in January 2022. Her dad, Travis is lucky enough to have a job where they are understanding to his situation and are allowing him to take unpaid time off, but we are unsure when Makenna will be discharged and he’s already missed 5 days of work unpaid at this point, and he can’t afford to take any further time off, not that he could really afford to take any time off in the first place. She’s currently on a feeding tube & on oxygen because her levels keep dropping into the 80’s. Although we are slowly seeing improvement, we know that there will be a lot of expenses coming from her hospital stay, and her two emergency room visits, as well as expenses coming from
her upcoming specialists appointments, and tests that have been ordered. Also, again, missing work in the future for these. If you’re able to donate, it would help a little, and if you’re not able to, I’m hopeful that maybe you could share this post. Thank you for considering
