Makena Vs Leukemia Round 4
Donation protected
On christmas eve we recieved confirmation that Makena had replased for the 3rd time. January 9th was 5 years she has been fighting Leukemia with her longest period of remission being only 10 months. Makena has faced each fight with bravery and strenght only seen in these kids who face cancer. With years of chemo, 1 failed bone marrow transplant and failed CarT, we are short on treatment options. Her cancer has mutated slightly this time which does not change her treatment plan but does show how cancer is ever changing and becomes resistant to treatments it see over and over.
Sick kids and mcmaster have come up with a plan for her which includes yet another bone marrow transplant with her brother, caiden as her donor. Success rates are not as high as we would like and the risks of complications are high. But we have to give her every chance we can. Caiden is ready and willing to endure a week of painful prep and stem cell harvest, he is an amazing kid.
For now we have been able to keep makena at home and do outpatient treatment. Overall she is feeling fairly well.
Mcmaster will check her bone marrow for cancer on feb 5th if she is close enough to remission or in complete remission we already have an admission date to sick kids on feb. 13.
We will be in isolation for at least 30 days and then will have to live at the ronald mcdonald house for 2 additional months so she can be close to her medical team.
I will update as i can
Thank you all for the years of love and support.
