From Fred & Marla's family,

On Monday, March 28th, the unimaginable happened.  Marla was admitted to the hospital as she had been having some blood pressure problems. She suddenly began to feel that something was not right.  They rushed Marla down to labor & delivery. Once there they saw that Makennas heart rate was incredibly low. Marla then began to struggle with breathing. They rushed her back for an emergency c-section. As soon as baby was out, Marla coded. Her heart stopped. They had to do CPR for 25-30 minutes before they were able to get her heart back. 2 hours after they began hypothermia therapy. They did this for 24 hours in an attempt to save her organs & brain from swelling. Then they began to warm her back up. Once they warmed her they tried to wake her from sedation. She still hasn't woken up. Neurologists have said the MRI results show severe brain damage due to the lack of oxygen in her brain.  They are diagnosing this as an amniotic fluid embolism by exclusion. 1 in 40,000 births. She is 34, this is their first baby. She was 31 weeks 4 days gestation & baby is doing fantastic in the NICU. Her MRI showed that she will never recover from this, but our God is in the business of miracles, He is able!!!!

During this difficult time, Fred has taken time off to care for both Marla & Makenna and is unsure of what long-term complications Marla will have. Sweet Makenna is absolutely perfect & healthy.

Many have asked how to help support this wonderful family. A fund has been established to help with the immediate medical costs and cover any additonal expenses which are sure to come.

The family wishes to thank the incredible medical team, their family, friends, co-workers and the many strangers who have prayed and offered their help. Since Marla & Makenna remain in the hospital we are asking for privacy as they recover. We will do our best to make regular updates.
