Make St. John the Confessor Accessible for All Ages

Warmest greetings in our Lord from the parish of St. John the Confessor Orthodox Church in Ipswich, MA USA. We are a parish established in 1993 in the New England town of Ipswich Massachusetts and are under Metropolitan Demetrius of the Genuine Orthodox Church.

In times past, Orthodox churches and cathedrals were almost entirely funded by Christ loving monarchies and governments. Think the Byzantine Empire, Russia, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia, France, Italy, Serbia.

In the times we now live, funding is through the largesse of personal donations as countries, governments and peoples have turned away from our Savior.

This letter is an appeal for donations from those that hold fast to the Faith and love for our Savior and His Churches established to feed His flocks.

Our parish is embarking on a fund-raising project to enlarge our building and to accommodate elderly members.

Our current layout and space have served us well for 31 years, but over those years our population has grown larger and, of course, aged.

We have quite a few parishioners (including priests) in their 70’s and 80’s and some parishioners with physical disabilities that preclude using stairs.

Our current function and community meal area are in the parish basement, which is accessed by a stairwell and, needless to say, has increasingly become a challenge for the affected groups.

Along with a building addition to move the function area up, we are paving our dirt and gravel driveway and parking area which, in wet weather, become very soft and muddy and is, of course, tracked inside.

We have calculated estimated costs and have concluded that we need to raise $700,000.00. Our parish itself has set aside $10,000.00 as a beginning.

We are acutely aware that inflation has impacted everyone.

We ask and pray for those able to please donate what they are able and is pleasing to God.
