Cool Down Skid Row Garage!

Update: We’re back! Soft openings are for figuring out where the breakdowns are going to occur. 

Our current priority is an underperforming HVAC system. It is scheduled and ready to go, but it is a massive expense. Any donations at this point will be doing directly to fund the HVAC upgrades so the next show is much cooler than the first.

Skid Row Garage has been the home for live music in York City since the summer of 2009. In the summer of 2021, that came to a screeching halt. We have recently secured something beyond our wildest dreams: a legitimate and safe place to operate as a club that even has indoor restrooms! Skid Row Garage and live music in York City will have a much-needed home, but we need your continued support to take this idea to the next level.

We pulled together enough donations to officially secure an abandoned, feral building that is absolutely perfect. Seriously- it is the Goldilocks of DIY spaces: no landlords to pull the plug, and most importantly working with the city’s concerns for a safer environment to uhh, generally assemble. To do this and get the space fit, we have one final step to go. Everyone’s generosity to save it is always appreciated. Now that it’s a reality, let’s have some fun and see how awesome we can make this community space.

We acted in good faith and with your help we saved Skid Row Garage. The outpouring of support enabled us to secure something that we never imagined was possible. We are beyond stoked and the ball is in motion. We are past the halfway point, but a villain and challenge has appeared. We need your assistance so we can have the thing everyone always complains about this area not having. Skid Row Garage can be as good (or better!) than any of us could ever have imagined, and you can be part of that.

The location we have locked down has been vacant for almost 8 years and is in desperate need of some TLC. Leaky roof and skylights, replacement flooring, replacing vandalized doors, electrical work, accessible bathrooms, and cleaning up years of neglect and vandalism are the major hurdles that we face before we can open. All funds donated will be going directly to repairing and updating the building so that Skid Row Garage can be the go-to club for live music.
