Hello, my dear friends, family, and every kind soul out there,

I’m Patrick Behrens, and as I approach my 60th birthday in 2026, I’m pausing to reflect on the love, laughter, and lessons that have filled my life. The friends who’ve stood by me, the moments that have shaped me, and the truth that time slips by so quickly have me asking: how do I want to live this wonderful life?
For years, I’ve dreamed of walking the Camino de Santiago, a breathtaking 500-mile trail through northern Spain’s rolling hills and charming villages, walked by pilgrims for centuries in search of meaning. This 40-day pilgrimage, averaging 15 miles a day, isn’t just a journey—it’s a vibrant celebration of 60 years, a chance to make a difference for myself, my family, and others, and a heartfelt experiment to embrace the Camino’s spirit of connection and generosity. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this timeless adventure, in Spain and here at home, by sharing your kindness to bring this dream to life.
Turning 60 feels like a radiant, now-or-never moment to live with purpose. I’ve spent decades raising my kids and pouring my heart into meaningful work, but time is fleeting, and I want every moment to count. I’ll never forget a rainy evening when a Scotsman sat at my table, sharing a glass of wine and tales of the Camino’s generosity—his laughter warmed my heart and planted this dream. That moment draws me to the Camino, a global symbol of growth and spirituality where people unite to reflect and connect. I’m thrilled to imagine its magic over those 40 days, walking 15 miles each day: the crunch of gravel under my feet, a heartfelt chat with a fellow pilgrim over coffee, or standing in awe at the Santiago cathedral, picturing my kids reading my journal and chasing their own dreams. This journey is about answering, “How do you want to live?” with courage, joy, and gratitude.
This pilgrimage is my experiment in the Camino’s legendary generosity, a quest to see if I can walk this 40-day path, 15 miles a day, carried by the kindness of others, reflecting the trail’s deep meaning of community. The Camino is famous for its spirit—strangers sharing meals, offering a smile on a tough day, or lifting each other. I want to explore whether that generosity can spark this dream, demonstrating how our collective compassion can transform lives and inspire a cycle of kindness that lasts beyond these 40 days. The costs include a round-trip flight to Spain, gear such as a comfortable backpack and sturdy shoes, simple beds in pilgrim hostels, and meals to keep me going. I’m aiming to raise $8,500—$1,500 for flights, $800 for gear, $2,200 for food and lodging, and $4,000 for contingencies like medical needs or travel delays.
Your kindness lights the way, and every contribution makes you part of this historic journey: $5 lights a prayer candle in a Camino chapel, $10 fuels a hearty meal, $25 secures a night’s rest, $50 equips me with sturdy shoes, $100 sponsors a day’s 15-mile walk, or $250 dedicates a trail milestone. Sharing this page or leaving a note in the comments means you’re walking with me. Every gesture is a spark of the Camino’s magic, creating a ripple of love for my family, my community, and beyond. I’ll carry a journal to write your names, dedicating a moment at the Cruz de Ferro—a Camino tradition where pilgrims leave a stone—to honor your support. I’ll share stories through a blog, community talks, and training updates, teaching my kids to live boldly and kindly and inspiring others to pursue their dreams. What’s your Camino? What moment are you ready to seize in this fleeting life?
Join me in the Camino Kindness Challenge: do a small act of kindness—like paying for someone’s coffee—and share it with #PatricksCamino or in the comments below. Together, we can show how generosity transforms lives. We all have dreams that call us—don’t miss your chance to be part of this unforgettable moment. Your generosity will light up every step of this 40-day, 15-mile-a-day adventure, and I’ll share personalized thank-you notes and stories from the trail, knowing we’ve made a difference together.

With all my love and gratitude,
Patrick Behrens
