We’ve got a lot done at WLB this year toward our mission of research and education to improve the path to menopause. But most of our time has been spent writing papers based on the data from the Women Living Better survey.

We are thrilled that four (4) more papers have been accepted for publication: 3 in Menopause, the journal of the North American Menopause Society and 1 in the Journal of Women’s Heath. Both are peer-reviewed journals.

We do what we do pretty cheaply, and my collaborators and I all volunteer our time. However, making our research open access is costly – and important – so we are asking for help.

Our latest paper, “Seeking Health Care for Perimenopausal Symptoms: Observations from The Women Living Better Survey”, details what survey respondents reported about their interactions with health care providers. Perimenopausal health care interactions need to be improved and we think this paper can help, but to do so it has to be widely available.

If we cover the costs of that paper, the next focus of funds raised will be updates to WLB symptom pages. As our work has become better known over the past 6 years, we have connected with more amazing experts some of whom are now WLB advisors. They are willing to help us update our symptom-specific information, and a few are set do short video interviews. But this work will also take resources, and we could use some help in getting it all done!

Last year’s campaign allowed us to make our paper about perimenopause symptoms starting before periods are irregular open access. As a result, you can see the whole paper — all the symptoms and how many people reported them — here on our site and on the journal's site here. This paper filled an important knowledge gap — it’s been cited many times.
