Making Miracles to Support Jose Mejias' Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
Our beloved Jose Mejias, the man I'm honored to call dad, needs our support! Known to many as a proud Dominican who's loved and respected, he suffered a severe stroke on February 23rd caused by a blood clot on the right side of his brain. Working as a Live Hanger, coworkers noticed my father was not himself. He continued to work despite not feeling well till his shift was over. Unfortunately, that Saturday, his symptoms started quickly, feeling weakness on his left side and slurred speech. After being admitted to RMH, he was then transported to UVA after a scan showed a severe blood clot on the right brain. A surgical procedure called thrombectomy was done to save my dad's life. Sadly, it wasn't enough. Being an only child, I had to face a life/death decision to consent to a surgical brain procedure where a portion of the skull was removed to relieve the pressure on the right side of the brain. What we now face is time. Unable to speak or move, I know my dad hears us. Doctors were encouraged by his determination to move his arms and legs, making him a great candidate for a semi-acute rehab here in Charlottesville. A challenge over the course of months and years with intensive rehab, doctor visits, and lots of assistance. During his progress, our goal as a family is to help regain lost functions, improve his strength, mobility, and work towards becoming independent again once discharged. We are reaching out to my dad's community, family, friends, and anyone who reads this to please help support him with prayers, love, positive energy, and anything you can to contribute to help with donations while he focuses on his healing and recovery. With my father being out of work, his coworkers/friends got together to raise money on his behalf. My father is so blessed to have family and friends that love him dearly. We thank you all for reaching out, sharing your concerns, and financial help.
As my dad would always say, "He loves you for FREE." We love you too and we'll keep you all updated with his progress. God bless and please feel free to leave messages for my dad, to know he's not alone.
