This a tale of two tales, or is that tails....
Tale one starts with Amy, a big-hearted human, who for 10 years had loved and cared for her amazing golden retriever and best friend, Nash. Sadly Nash passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion, and Amy with an empty space that was hard to ever think to fill.
Tale two is Milo's sad story. He's a young golden retriever and his owner became very, very sick. She had to go into hospice and Milo was sent to live with a dog breeder as his family figured out what to do next.
And next for Milo meant that he needed to find a new forever home.
Enter Amy who has a special soft spot for goldens and heard about Milo's plight soon after Nash had passed away. Not sure she was ready for another dog, she still felt compelled to meet Milo.
So off she went to meet this little soul.
Enter Milo who was living in a rough situation for a golden. Milo spent much of his time alone which is not a good situation for a social breed. He was dirty, matted and a bit smelly, instantly earning him the nickname Stinky Milo.
When Amy met him, he was so happy to be out running around the yard and getting some much needed attention. Amy decided to take him for a walk and see how he would do. Off they set and as soon as Milo hit a grassy patch, he was rolling and revelling in the feel.
The story was set from there, for Amy knew she couldn't leave him behind. And off they drove to begin their new lives together.
Within the first two weeks of being with Amy, Milo had a seizure. Unsure of what to do, Amy took him to the vet where he was diagnosed with epilepsy.
Milo now takes CannaPet and Keppra to control the seizures, but he still has them from time to time. He's always a good boy about his situation, but sometimes the seizures will make him vomit or loose control of his bowels.
Milo was 4 years old when Amy got him and there was no mention of seizures or epilepsy in his records. Milo spent the first formative years of his life experiencing untreated seizures.
When he seizes, Milo's legs shoot out straight and stiffen, the muscles seizing, which puts stress on his joints. His back leg needs surgery so that he can walk and not be in pain every day. Milo also takes a heavy dose of pain medication but there are many days he cannot put weight on his back legs and can barely walk around the block .
Amy has tried everything & invested thousands of dollars on such things as; Physical therapy, water treadmills, acupuncture, massage & numerous other treatments .
Last Wednesday Milo had an ultrasound, chest xrays, and a brain ultrasound to see if all his issues were related to a possible brain tumor. All the test came back clear!
So now The time has come where if Milo doesn't get his knee(s) fixed he won't be able to run on the beach (his favorite place), or take long walks in the neighborhood. He is constantly lame on his back legs, has difficulty getting up (Amy often has to assist) even with all these meds, he often he loses his appetite from the pain. And now it has come to a point where he needs surgery but the cost is $3500. Milo needs your help. Amy has already spend thousands & thousands on Milo, she could really use a few extra dollars for his upcoming surgery which is scheduled for August 15th.
Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated by Milo and Amy. Amy's goal is that by next summer, Milo will be running, wild and free, like he is meant to be.
