Make Mabel’s garden a safe space

Hi everyone,
Some of you may have already heard or seen Mabel’s story but for those of you who haven’t, please read on. I’ve known Chez for a long time and we spent a lot of time together with our mutual friend Gemma when I was on maternity leave with Charlie and pre school years.
We then reconnected when I had Fin as we had Maisie and Charlie at the same primary school. Chez is bloody wonderful and so is her beautiful family however their whole world was turned upside down when their daughter Mabel, was diagnosed with Battens Disease.
Mabel started having seizures out of the blue. The seizures continued and eventually she was diagnosed with epilepsy. They started meds, with Mabel having a number of other tests and scans. They unfortunately went on to discover it was not epilepsy and it was in fact Batten’s disease.
Battens is a cruel childhood disease which has no cure and is severely life limiting. It is neurodegenerative, which means Mabel will deteriorate over the coming years. She has already started to lose the ability to walk and struggles with her speech, after that blindness becomes a real possibility.
Mabel is a little trooper and has completed 16 infusions to date to try and slow down the regression.
Knowing that Chez and her family are going through this is devastating and I can’t comprehend what they are going through. Since I found out, I wanted to help.
After speaking with Chez, she told me they need to try and make the garden a safer space for Mabel so I have decided I am going to run a 10k in October to try and raise as much money as possible for them
I haven’t ran that far in years and it’s going to be tough!!
Wish me luck!
Thanks for reading!
