If you know Melissa Mitchell, you know her amazing sense of humor, generous spirit and unmatched dedication to friends and family. There is a light inside her that shines so brightly, it warms those in her orbit. Due to an unexpected health emergency, as Melissa’s friends and family we are kindly asking for your support.

On May 26, Melissa experienced a massive seizure and lost consciousness. After a CT scan and MRI, a large brain tumor was discovered on her right side near the back of her head. A brain biopsy on June 9th determined the tumor is malignant. Obviously a diagnosis of brain cancer is devastating, but Melissa and her family have chosen to remain positive and optimistic about her prognosis and current treatment plan.

Melissa will undergo major brain surgery to remove as much of the tumor as safely possible on June 16th. Physical therapy will follow depending on her recovery and any after effects of surgery. Radiation and chemotherapy also lie ahead to treat any of the tumor the surgeon is unable to remove. Melissa definitely has a long and tough road ahead of her but she is ready for a fight. If anyone can kick cancer’s ass, it’s Melissa.

That being said, even with great insurance fighting cancer is expensive. Melissa does not have employer-provided health insurance so the hospital bills will likely be daunting.
