Help Me Get to DC
Hello everybody, if you don't know me, my name is George Jordan. Most people that are close to me call me Goat. I have been Goat for a very long time, and it is a term of endearment to me, so don't think that it offends me when I'm called Goat. I am a 71-year-young gentleman (and I use that word sparsely) who has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. They think that it may have moved into my lymph nodes, but we're not sure about that yet. But that is not what I'm asking for the GoFundMe fund for.
I live under the auspices of a group called Oxford House. They are a worldwide group that opens homes, which would be called transitional homes, for men and women, and women with children, who suffer from alcohol addiction and substance abuse addiction. I live in an Oxford House in Baton Rouge by the name of Coursey and have been living at that residence for 6 years now. The group I'm with has been trying and trying to get me to go to the world convention for Oxford House, which is going to be at the end of August. Because I live on a fixed income, social security benefits only, it made it really hard, even though in my heart I wanted to be there. Even one time, they were willing to pay for the whole thing—the registration and the motel room—but the expense for me to go there, eat out, and do the functions instead of just laying up in my room while I was there was extreme.
So what I'm asking for is maybe some help. I'm kind of prideful, and it's hard to do this. I'm from really old school and don't really know how. But I guess this is the first step. I guarantee you if any funds do come in, I will be frugal, and the funds will go for getting me to the Oxford House World Convention in Washington, DC.
The total out-of-pocket cost, not including expenses or what I would call fun money, will be to the tune of roughly about $1500 to $1600. Any type of help, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated, and I do appreciate your time just for even reading this post. Thank you and God bless.
