Please Help Bring the Magic to our PWS Princess Emma Love

Eight years ago, I met Emmalie, and she changed my life for the better. She walked into my preschool disabled classroom, and from that moment, my heart was hers. I felt an instant connection to Emmalie and her family, lovingly known as the little Italians. I was determined to learn more about Prader-Willis Syndrome (PWS) and do whatever I could to support them.

Over the years, Emmalie’s family became an integral part of my life. Emmalie’s younger sister, Aurora, even became my goddaughter. As I grew as a special educator and became closer to this amazing family, I gained a deeper understanding of the immense challenges of parenting a child with not only Prader- Willi, but Autism as well. I’ve witnessed firsthand the strength, love, and dedication her parents show every day. I could never describe the EXTRA it takes to be a Special Needs parent. It’s no exaggeration when people say that parents of children with disabilities are superheroes; their super power must be love, because it is often a struggle that many of us cannot even imagine.

A few years ago, we launched the Emma Love Prader- Willi Awareness (PWS) Campaign, with the goal of sharing information on this complex and rare syndrome, and connecting with other PWS families. We have had great success however this year I want to do something a little different. It is our third year and for me three is a magic number :) That's why this year for Prader Willi awareness I am not focusing my energy on the organization, but instead on the individual. To celebrate our third year I would like to request your help in making some magic for Emmalie.

Emmalie has always dreamed of going to Disney- what kid doesn't? The difference is planning for Emmalie’s trip is far more complex, intensive and unpredictable! This trip will require her family's super powers. It is an entirely different level of planning, preparation and possibilities. I know they will make it happen but I want to make it easier for them. I want to sprinkle some pixie dust on their trip! Help me make this once-in-a-lifetime experience a reality for Emmalie, our favorite PWS Princess.
