Make Eid happen for children at Hargeisa Orphanage

Thank you for taking the time to read this fundraiser. This fundraiser is directly supporting young Somali boys and girls in the Hargeisa Orphanage Center in Somaliland. In a couple of days, Muslims around the world will be celebrating Eid, a worldwide festival and celebration for Muslims which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Usually, this is a day where kids get to wear new clothes and celebrate it with family and friends. Unfortunately, this is not the case this year for many of them due to the pandemic. Many families that used to support these kids do not have the means to support them. Because of the current economic instability in the country worsened by Covid-19, the government cannot fully sponsor all of the children. This is where we come in and help them, so they do not feel left out. With the money we raise together, we will buy Eid clothes for 100 kids, $50/child.

When we attended Abaarso School, we had the pleasure of directly working with the children at the Hargeisa Orphanage Center as we tutored them English and Math twice a week. We observed how excited they would get when they did well on an exam and/or when one of us brought them their favorite candy. Those small acts made them happy and reminded them that they were cared for. Providing them Eid clothes would mean so much to the children because of how important Eid is to a child.

As little kids, Eid was a day filled with everyone wearing their newest outfits, visiting relatives to collect (xaqal Eid), a small pocket money given to a child, and spending this beautiful day with loved ones. We would stay up the night before Eid watching the fireworks and sometimes wore our new clothes when our parents were not around. Due to the excitement of this day, we would sometimes put our new clothes under our pillows the night before and keep them there until the next day. Eid was the only time, our families granted us all of our wishes whether it’s buying us our favorite outfits, toys, and/or shoes. Eid is one of the few days where almost everyone in every family truly feels joy and experiences happiness. We would love every child to experience those feelings.

After we collect the funds, the money will be sent to Kawsar Amin and Billan Omar, who are currently working with a Grassroots Organization in Hargeisa, Taakulo, which supports orphanage kids and under-resourced communities impacted by Covid-19. They will work directly with the children to purchase clothes for them. Kawsar and Billan will share photos with us to show how much impact we have made together and how the funds were distributed.

We sincerely thank you for considering this fundraiser. Every single act of kindness counts and yours is truly appreciated.

Much love,
