Hello Friends!
Some of you may personally know David Biegemann, or may have had the good fortune to visit Pop More Corks, the beautifully curated wine shop he previously owned in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. I lived in the Lake Geneva area myself years ago and met David while selling wine in the area and we became good friends. He has been a good and trusted friend to me ever since and I would now like to be there for him.
Recently David has fallen on some hard times, and along with being a diabetic, and a past stroke victim, he has now been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. The combination of all of these challenges has rendered him immobile and he now spends his days in a wheelchair. Due to David’s physical condition he can no longer work and is on permanent disability.
Until last month he was living with his father in his father’s senior housing which no longer allows David to stay there. While he was fortunate to find an apartment of his own, during the transition, his belongings had to be moved into storage. Due to the financial restraints of living on disability and paying caregivers, he has had to choose between paying the caregivers or retrieving his belongings from storage. He is currently living in his apartment with only a TV, his computer, a weeks worth of clothing, a pan and a few utensils. In order to retrieve his belongings, he needs to pay his moving company expenses which are $1200.
Sometimes David also has to choose between paying the caregivers or eating healthy. Over and above housing expenses, David requires at a bare minimum, caregivers for 2-4 hours a day at $20 an hour which can include, cooking, shopping, bathing, cleaning and basic daily functions. To continue living independently, the care givers are a necessity.
Parkinson's is a disease that progresses over time and David is trying to remain independent for as long as possible. He is currently working with a local agency who may be able to assist with some of the future caregiver expenses.
Although I know there are many in this world who struggle, I think it was Mother Teresa who said "If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one". I can't feed 100 people, but I can try to help my friend David and I ask you to do the same.
Let's all come together and help David get his things out of storage, moved and into his apartment so it feels like a home along with feeling like he can count on the help he needs for his personal care.
Please donate generously...it's Christmas and he's not only missing out on being in a warmly decorated home for Christmas, but is sitting in an empty apartment without his belongings or even a bed to lay on.
Any additional funds will be used to assist David with his future caregivers and stocking his pantry.
Thank you and God Bless!
