Hi my name is Ciara. As some of our friends and family know, Chris is a paraplegic and has been sick for a long time. In Ocotober 2021 he was admitted to our local hospital for Stage 4 wounds. They were so severe, that they had to send him to a hospital in NYC. He was septic and undernourished. They thought they had got it under control and discharged him in December 2021.

On January 12, 2022 he was readmitted to Montifore in the Bronx. He was still septic. While there he started to status seize (continuous seizures) so they had to intubate him. When they had finally got him under control and tried to exubate him, Chris had difficulty breathing on his own. During all of this he had pneumonia, not once but twice and had a collapsed lung. While he was there, doctors had to cut out half of his femur to remove the infection that spread to his bones. He has lots of bed sores and some were debrided and skin grafted to try and heal them. As well they performed a tracheostomy and inserted a feeding tube. Chris was extremely sick to the point where we were told to start preparing for the worst.

He is doing a lot better but still has a very long road ahead of him but due to the amazing doctors and all the prayers from everyone Chris pulled through and was able to be sent to a rehab. Now we are working on getting him home but before we can do that, he needs a stair lift installed to make life easier for not only him but for my mom who cares for him. Unfortunately his insuance does not cover a lift. My mom has been getting estimates and the cheapest one was about $5,000. Another company came out to the house and estimated almost $10,000. Chris doesnt need anything fancy or expensive, he just needs something to suit his needs and get the job done. Between the condition Chris's body is in and my mom getting older, lifting Chris on her own up and down the stairs is unsafe and not pratical anymore. This would make life so much easier and comfortable for the both of them and my mom does not have anyone to help her. I am making this fundraiser to help cover the cost of a stairlift.
