Bert – our sweet boy whose face was cruelly destroyed by acid.
Many of you have been following Bert’s journey. He came to us a couple of months ago after surviving on the streets for so long, his face heartbreakingly deformed. We never truly understood what had happened to him only that the injuries were so severe he could not even close his eyes, leaving him with constant ulcers and unimaginable pain.
At first, surgery was attempted, but it failed. We knew we couldn’t just leave him like this, so we began reaching out to specialists. When we spoke with the Ralph, our worst fears were confirmed: they had seen this kind of injury before. Bert’s wounds were not an accident someone had deliberately thrown acid in his face.
Specialists explained that Bert would need skin grafts and multiple surgeries, costing between £5,000 and £10,000. With ulcers continuing to form and his pain growing worse, we couldn’t let him suffer any longer. The Ralph, showing such kindness, have reduced the cost to £3,500. Even so, with the many emergencies we’ve faced recently, raising this amount feels overwhelming.
Bert is already booked in for the 9th of September, and we are desperately hoping to raise the funds in time. He has already endured another surgery and a dental, bringing his vet bills to £5,000 and yet he still needs more to give him the chance of a life without agony.
