The Racca family’s oldest daughter, Miranda (13yrs), have been diagnosed with a spinal fluid leak which is very rare and difficult to treat. Her parents Megan and Josh has been dealing with the unknown and endless disappointment as they try to find a cure for Miranda’s rare illness.
Miranda started to get horrible headaches in August. Shortly afterwards in September she would pass out and lose full consciousness. Things continue to get worse with daily, multiple, uncontrollable seizures. Miranda’s life has been confined to a bed and she is unable to sit up or move freely. The only treatment her body would only respond is a epidural blood patch which is a surgical procedure that closes the holes in her spine, however they are temporary. Miranda has been admitted to the hospital 5 times with no solutions and hasn't been able to attend school since mid October.
Their last and only solution is to travel to California to Cedars Sinai. Megan and Josh have been in contact with Dr. Schievink (the #1 CSF leak doctor in the world). On Tuesday morning 1/15/19 at Medical City of Dallas, a team of doctors administrated her 3rd blood patch. They told Megan and Josh they would not be willing to do anymore blood patches. Their fabulous neurologist and ear neurologist urged them to drive to California immediately since the past 2 blood patches only lasted 6 days each. This temporary relief was an answer to their prayers for transporting Miranda to California.
The most difficult part is her family will be separated from their younger children Amelia (10) and Lilah (6) during Miranda’s treatment. Please help ease the stress during this heartbreaking time. All donations will go to The Racca family for travel and medical expenses. It is very important they stay as close to the hospital as possible and Cedars Sinai is located in Beverly Hills. Right now the length of their stay is undetermined but they know they will be there for at least 30 days. Please consider financially helping The Raccas. Any amount helps and it will be greatly appreciated.
