Hi, my name is Angela Brown and I help individuals with disabilities and their families. I became involved with Elijah and his family after he suffered a severe anoxic brain injury.
September 21st, 2021, was a typical day for Elijah and his family. No one could have predicted that an asthma attack would lead to Elijah going into cardiac arrest, depriving his brain of blood and oxygen. At just 12 years old, Elijah's life was changed forever. His family's life was changed forever. Elijah now requires around-the-clock care in his home. Simple, everyday life activities we often take for granted are huge challenges for this family. Elijah's healthcare requires numerous long-distance medical appointments, and a run-of-the-mill cold can turn into an ER visit and hospitalization.
Elijah and his family desperately need a handicap accessible van. Transportation is essential for Elijah's medical care and would allow him opportunities to be a part of normal family events. Elijah is a growing 16-year-old young man and transportation will continue to be a significant need in his care. A handicap accessible van would be life-changing for Elijah and his family.
