The Kiruthi Family has had a very difficult year. Please join our community of support to help them focus on what really matters during this difficult time.
Mary Nyambura Kiruthi is 72 year old and lives in Nakuru, Kenya. She is the loving mother of five children (Kiruthi-and his siblings: Wambui, Nyokabi, Kirunda, and Waiganjo) and the loving grandmother to seven grandchildren with another on the way!
In September 2022, Mary was diagnosed with metastatic esophageal cancer. The family chose to take her to India for assessment and treatment. There was no healthcare option in Kenya for Mary to have received targeted therapy, which offered her the best chance of survival. Since September, she has undergone 15 weeks of IV chemotherapy, 12 weeks of IV immunotherapy, and 7 weeks of daily targeted radiation. All of this treatment was paid for out of pocket by her loving family. She spent almost 6 months living in Dehli, India, and the family took shifts going there to be her attendant. Mary was able to return home to Kenya at the end of March and is happy to be home. Although the acute treatment is done, Mary will continue to take oral chemotherapy for a year, and IV immunotherapy every 3 weeks, indefinitely.
Unfortunately, none of Mary's medical costs are covered by insurance. The doctor's visits, hospital care, tests, medications, treatments, housing in India, transportation, etc. have all been covered by her extended family pulling resources together.
Please join our community of support by donating to this beautiful family so that they can stop worrying about the cost of treatment for their loving matriarch and instead focus on what really matters during this difficult journey.
