Make a difference for a small family in need.

I work as a surgical nurse in Capitola, California - close to Santa Cruz. My husband (Chad) is a stay-at-home-dad to our two young children - age 4 months and age 5. We didn’t want to ask for support but we were hit hard twice by medical bills and loss of wages at a vulnerable time.

Our daughter was born in December 2022 and ended up in the NICU for 6 days adding to the expense of having a baby. We brought our baby girl home, made adjustments to our life including what we eat, to match maternity-leave low income. It has been a struggle but we thought we would make it and we so enjoyed our important time bonding with our newborn.

Just a few days before I was scheduled to return to work, I got in a bicycle accident severely breaking my arm. The break was bad, 5 fractures and a hole in the bone from one bone puncturing another. Surgery was my only choice. It was a difficult surgery with a large plate and several screws that will take time to heal. Unfortunately, I will require an additional surgery in three months to complete the repair. Physical therapy will be needed to rehab my arm and hand so I can work again.

Now we have more medical bills plus continued time off of work at a time that our savings have been exhausted. Not only can I not perform my job as a surgical nurse, I cannot even carry my 4 month old girl. Yes, I have insurance, that I pay out heavily for, with a high deductible, and high copayment.

We are caught woefully short. Any amount you can contribute small or large is so appreciated. We humbly ask for support as I heal and eventually rehabilitate my wrist and arm so I can provide for my family.
