Help Simon's disabled trans superhero come to life

Donation protected

Hey, all! I’m Julie Novak. I’m a producer and facilitator at The Future Perfect Project, an all-queer collective of artists and activists who provide free arts programming for LGBTQIA+ youth around the world. We believe the amplification of their voices and vision are declarations of a better future for all of us.

Growing up in the 80s, I wanted nothing more than to see myself reflected in the media, but there was no visibility back then. I felt alone and at times suicidal because I didn’t think there was anyone else like me. Many years later, I found my tribe and now dedicate my life to making sure that LGBTQIA+ youth not only see themselves, but they also create their own stories, with their own narrative. As a result, queer youth see a reflection of themselves, and all of their power, beauty and magic.

This past spring The Future Perfect Project gave me and co-producer Z Infante the opportunity to create a program called Queer Qomics, which provides young people the means to put themselves at the center of their own heroic journey.

Meet Simon. He is a young trans man, an ostomate, and gifted writer who created The Empowering Adventures of Levi and Sammy. This series tells the story of two young trans men who work to stop the unruly Anti-Queer Ableist, a person who is determined to undermine the work of everyone in the disabled queer community.

This story is the first animated action series that features an ostomate as the main character, and all the voice-acting is done by trans and non-binary youth. Further, in our effort to make sure that the youth we are serving see themselves in the creation from start to finish, we’ve been working with Julian Gray, a talented disabled trans artist who illustrated all of the characters in this beautiful animation rendered by Andrej Veselei.

We are excited to debut this series during Disability Pride month in July, but we need your help! So far, we’ve been able to complete production of the first episode in this three-part series, but we need to raise additional funds in order to animate and score the last two episodes! Will you support Simon today to finish telling his incredible story? Each episode takes about 1 month to complete, and we are hoping to raise our funds by February 1st. Donate today to help LGBTQIA+ youth like Simon see themselves as the superheroes they are! Thank you so much for your support!
