Supporting an Autistic Jazz Musician's Education

נעים מאוד, אני זוהר מוקדי עמר, גר בניו יורק, מוזיקאי ג׳אז, מלחין נגן סקסופון וגם אוטיסט בתפקוד גבוה.

למרות שאני צעיר, הספקתי לעבור כבר די הרבה. גדלתי עם אמא חד הורית, חווינו הרבה קשיים כלכליים, וגם חברתית היו לי הרבה בעיות, במיוחד בתקופת התיכון. הצלחתי להתגבר, והיום אני בעיקר מרוכז במוזיקה, שהיא התרופה וההצלה שלי.

אני כרגע נמצא בשנה האחרונה באחד מהמוסדות הכי טובים בעולם למוסיקת ג׳אז, והצלחתי להתקבל מתוך המון מועמדים מכל העולם. אפילו קיבלתי מילגה לשנה אחת מתוך שתיים. את התזה שלי אני רוצה לעשות על הקשר המיוחד שבין אוטיסטים למוזיקה.

בנוסף, אני מאוד רוצה להשאר פה בניו יורק ולקדם את המוסיקה שלי, הקלטתי פה אלבום עם הלהקה שלי, ועכשיו אלבום נוסף בדרך.

הבעיה, וזו בעיה גדולה, שאין לאמא שלי ולי יכולת לשלם על השנה השנייה של הלימודים. נותר לי לשלם לבית ספר 15 אלף דולר על מנת שאצליח לסיים את השנה ולקבל את התואר השני. בחודשים האחרונים אני נוסע ממקום למקום, מופיע בפני הרבה אנשים ומבקש את תמיכתם, אבל מה שהצלחתי להשיג עדיין לא מספיק.

אני זקוק לעזרה שלכם ומוכן גם לבוא ולנגן איפה שרק צריך כדי להצליח להגשים את החלום שלי.

Your generous support will help Zohar Mokady Amar (26), who lives with HFA (High Functioning Autism), attend the last year of the prestigious Master's program at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. He was accepted with a 60% scholarship. 

Zohar needs to reach the goal by June 2022, in order to start his studies by this upcoming fall. 

Zohar is a talented musician who plays several instruments, including the clarinet, the tenor saxophone, the alto saxophone, the soprano saxophone, and the piano as a secondary instrument.

Zohar, currently living in New York, is an active member of various jazz ensembles. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance and composition from The New School University in New York.

Zohar toured as a bandleader and sideman in 5 different countries in Europe and the U.S.

In 2020 he released his debut album with his band - Friendy and got signed under the Grammy Award label GSI Records, run by one of the most well-known drummers in the global jazz scene - Eric Harland. The album got over 150,000 streams on different streaming platforms, was reviewed by six magazines, and played on radio stations and podcasts around the world. He was also awarded a generous grant from Pathways to Jazz in 2021.
