Cycling the Tour de 4 to help Fight Cancer

This year I’ll be cycling the Tour de 4 in Glasgow, on 7th September - hopefully no rain or wind that day as I’m a fair weather cyclist!

This inaugural event has been set up by Sir Chris Hoy following his diagnosis with stage 4 cancer, to demonstrate that a stage 4 diagnosis, while devastating, doesn't define the limits of what's possible.

I have cycled in events before (well twice) but not since my own stage 4 diagnosis and not for charity. So this really is a very personal challenge to be part of the movement and raise funds for Make 2nds Count. They support those affected by secondary / metastatic / stage 4 breast cancer. They are an amazing charity that has helped me so much and many others, and help me feel supported in my own diagnosis.

Secondary breast cancer is breast cancer which has spread to other parts of the body. Although it can be treated, there is no cure. Unlike those living with primary breast cancer, there is no end of treatment, there is no remission nor bell ringing.

It’s estimated that 35,000 people are currently living with secondary breast cancer in the UK yet only 7% of the national funding for breast cancer goes towards this incurable disease. Make 2nds Count aim to address this imbalance.

Thank you for reading this far and please give generously if you can!

Thank you so very much,

Karen x
