Makayla’s Heart - part two
It's hard to find the words sometimes to express how much you really care for someone (and their family) and wish you could solve all their problems with the snap of your fingers...but you can't and with that, Makayla needs a new heart. I'm not sure if she's "officially" listed on the transplant list, but if she isn't at this moment, she will be in the coming days.
For those who followed Makayla's journey back in 2019 (if not, look here https://gofund.me/eafdd765)., you know how she conquered things like the fierce competitor we all know she is. Unfortunately things have taken a turn recently and Makayla was admitted to the hospital back in June. June 16th to be exact. She wasn't feeling great and just felt like something was wrong and a trip to the hospital turned into a stay. There still are not a lot of definite answers, but what we do know is that for some unknown reason the heart she graciously received 18 months ago is slowly failing. I could spend an hour explaining how your body never accepts a new organ and how a transplantee is always trying to suppress rejection, but Jen is MUCH better explaining the medical jargon and her and Mark are at Makayla's side as much as the hospital will let them be with many more answers, questions, hopes and frustrations than I could ever have.
So what do they need? As much as we can give...money, support, food, etc...which is why we are here again asking for everyone's help. Not just for Makayla, but for the Lawrence family. Things are a little different this time around and Covid has put a lot of restrictions in place for Makayla and the family. Visitors are not allowed outside of Jen and Mark. They are even not allowed to stay with her overnight (8am-8pm only).
The past week things have really progressed. What was a look for answers and find a way for the body to fight back, has turned quickly into the quest for a new donor heart. More updates to come, but I wanted to kick this off quickly so Makayla, Jen, Mark and the family can start getting the support they need to come out victorious again!
