On January 31, 2020 Jason & Jocelyn Connochie we’re given some of the worst news a parent can hear. CANCER- Myofibroblastic Sarcoma to be
exact.
A small lump on the inside of Makayla’ cheek that Jocelyn had asked the dentist to check at a
routine dental
appointment was immediately recommended
to see an oral surgeon , at this time they thought it was a clogged salivary gland. Once the oral surgeon went in they realized it wasn’t just a simple lesion & they were baffled.
Makayla’s tissue was then sent in for a biopsy, which has now led to this devastating diagnosis. Life since those gut
wrenching words has begun a whirlwind of what include CT scans, MRIs, and blood tests. A second surgery on February 12th led to the doctors fears that they were getting too close to nerves and has now led to more scans & testing.
Makayla has to be put under anesthesia every time she has a test or surgery. A third surgery is now scheduled for Wednesday March 4 which at that time they feel they might have to cut
into the nerves. We’re praying that is not the
case but we have much confidence in her surgeon & the team at The Stollery.
Throughout all this Jason has been travelling
back & forth from Grande Prairie to their home outside Barrhead trying to keep his company
rolling while trying to be the rock at home but he has only worked a total of 8 days in 2020. anyone who knows Jason, Jocelyn, Harlee & Makayla
knows how close knit they are. Jason’s whole life is his girls. Owning his own business has made keeping up with bills & obligations difficult. Work is only sporadic as he needs to be home to emotionally support his family.
With Makayla’s prognosis the future holds many treatments and appointments we would like to
help support them in having less financial worries
Our family is devastated to watch our youngest
girl have to go through this ugly disease but we know how tough she is and she’s always got her big
sister Harlee watching her back.
