Makara Home

This is a message to the descendants of Andrew Makara including: children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, their friends and well wishers.
Makara was born around 1913 and died in 1998 at the age of 85. He was one of the lucky few to obtain an education in those days and he made sure he gave the same chance to all his 13 children including the girls, although it was not common to educate the girl child in Kabale in those days. Today his children are found in Uganda, other parts of Africa, the UK and the USA. Throughout his life, he worked in different hospitals in Western Uganda. Despite having to provide for a large family and educate his children in private schools, he acquired through hard work and discipline, property and built a house in Muchahi, Bubale near Kabale.
After his death, the house slowly fell into disrepair and was condemned by the roads authority because a large part of it was in the road reserve and had to be demolished.
In January 2019 family members met and decided to build a memorial home to honor the Makara name. This will be a place where Makara family members can congregate and celebrate. It will also be used to help women in the village make and market arts and crafts. We estimate the cost to be around UGX 100 million. We are setting up a fund to this effect to give family members, their friends and well wishers a chance to contribute to this effort.
Your generosity is highly appreciated.
