Aloha everyone, we are kindly asking for you to consider making a contribution to Makamae Kapono and her Ohana. Makamae was born and raised on Maui, is an alumni of Kamehameha School and is only 20yrs old, she is full of life and has the biggest heart. She’s very passionate about her family, animals and caring for others. Things seemed to be going well in her life and she recently got a job that she loves as a receptionist at Ink and Beauty. She’s very wise and mature for her age and in a matter of weeks her life changed in an instant.
On the evening of April 14th 2019 while enjoying a family event she had a fever, sore throat and felt restless. The next morning she went to the hospital and they took several tests, she had a high heart rate and high fever. The doctors diagnosed her with a strep throat and sent her home with antibiotics and steroids. On Easter Sunday she returned to the hospital with a 103 fever and was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was miserable, in a lot of pain, with back aches and was very fatigue. She couldn’t handle the pain that she was feeling and at this point the doctors were questioning what was going on but sent her home with more antibiotics. She expressed that something just didn’t feel right. That following Monday she went to her regular doctor and he told her that she still had pneumonia and just needed to rest. Then Tuesday night she returned to the hospital and this is when everything changed. They finally admitted her and took several tests and found out that she had an enlarged liver and they were going to monitor her. About 6 hours later she had an emergency service and had to get flown out to Oahu immediately where she would get better one on one quality care.
She is currently in ICU @ Queens Medical Center and is fighting for her life. Makamae’s liver has failed and she’s being supported by machines. She’s stabilized and is waiting for the perfect donor for a liver transplant so that she can start recovering. This is a very young and healthy girl that declined in the blink of an eye, no one knows what caused this to happen so rapidly. Life is too short to take your current ability’s for granted.
The Kapono Ohana would be grateful for any contribution, no donation is too small and your generosity is greatly appreciated. Mahalo nui for all of the prayers, kind words, support and love. We’re so blessed to have so many people that care for our beautiful girl. We’re staying strong for her and have faith that she’ll push through. Please continue to pray for a miracle and to express your love, Aloha ✨
