Majura Primary Naturescapes is a special space where every playtime is an adventure! Students climb, balance, build, race, and imagine.
Studies show that nature play helps kids to become confident and resilient - supporting strong bodies, healthy minds, and friendships. Over the past 10 years, Majura Primary School and the P&C have transformed a barren patch of bitumen into a dynamic naturescapes play space. Now it's time for the next stage.
The Year 5 students have been working with renowned architect and biomimicry landscape designers Paul Barnett Design Group on a design - with more trees and shade, new rocks and logs, and clever water-harvesting trenches to help everything thrive through Canberra’s hot summers. The students identified more semi-private spaces and more adventure play as their top priorities.
The landscape plans are now live - check out the photos above!
Majura students already LOVE their Naturescapes. But we know it can be even better. This project will transform part of naturescapes into the lush oasis it was always meant to be. Biomimicry principles underpin the design, inviting students to connect with nature - which helps to build confidence, adaptability and wellbeing.
We’ve already reached our goal of $10,000! And the P&C has committed an additional $30,000. The price tag for construction is $72,000. Donate now to close the gap and help bring this project to life — creating a play space that’s natural, adventurous, and climate-smart for the school and the whole community. Construction is targeted for April 2026.
