This weekend we discovered that Major had a life threatening disease called Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) that was causing him severe pain and would take his motor skills, mental capacity, and eventually his life if it wasn't addressed quickly.
It was a very tough weekend trying to understand what was causing my baby to have these fits of pain and to act as quickly as possible. Because he cares so much about making me happy, he hid his as long as he could until it became unbearable.
After a weekend of escalating symptoms and we were able to get him an MRI that confirmed our fear that IVDD was the culprit for his quickly deteriorating functions and he was rushed into spinal surgery.
I went into the hospital last night after his surgery was complete and was told by the doctors that he is a strong boy and already able to be taken off anesthesia and oxygen support because he has such a strong fight in him.
This morning they let me know that he is showing some movement in his hind legs which is a very good sign and is "being sweet" to all the doctors and nurses which is also a great sign for his mental function.
I can't see him yet in the ICU for fear of it being too exciting for him too early but I'm getting regular updates and will be getting pictures of him soon.
Unfortunately, this life saving surgery and amazing care come at a hefty cost that I currently can't afford. I'm setting up a GoFundMe to ask for help paying off Major's surgery so that hopefully we can move forward from this moment.
