Major Spinal Reconstruction
Donation protected
Hi friends & neighbours, my name is Aisha! Amanda is a very close friend of mine, she is a single mum to 1 son in Grade 3 & has scoliosis with a 70 degree progression in the thoracic region. She is due to undergo a very scary surgery in a few short months. She is having a Major Spinal reconstruction for a severe spinal deformity. They will be opening & closing wedge osteotomies, doing a spinal realignment, partial spine removal & then doing a fusion up to the neck & down to the pelvis.
Amanda is a Maple Ridge resident, has been for many years & has supported many in the community over the years too. She recieved the date a few days ago with little to no time to plan financially. March is quickly approaching & with this surgery comes a ton of risk. The surgery takes between 8-10 hours to complete, it is very complex & there isn't any guarantee it will work due to the progression of her scoliosis condition. The pandemic has made it very hard for her to save for this & I am hoping to raise enough funds to give her the time she needs to heal & gain mobility back at her own pace. Obviously being a single parent she has to endure the financial aspect alone & it's difficult at the best of times to survive during these times with 2 incomes yet alone 1.
She will be out of commission for awhile & though she may receive EI, it doesn't fully cover the cost of living expenses, the care for her son during that time or equipment she may need post surgery. She will spend 2 weeks in the hospital recovering & then transferred to a rehabilitation hospital called GF Strong for 2 weeks to regain mobility again after the surgery.
Thank you for your time & I hope as a community we can come together & help alleviate the pressure during these scary times.
