Major Power Outage - Help Cheryl Recover!
Donation protected
Cheryl Hull and her family need our help. On Monday (8/10/20) while we were all at work at the Chicago Recovery Alliance CRA), a big storm blew through Chicagoland, and her home in Riverdale got hit hard when the storm caused a power outage. Not only that, but Com Ed also doesn't think it can restore power until Saturday, 8/15/20! They lost a refrigerator full of food and because of the anticipated length of the power outage, Cheryl and her husband Ricky had to purchase a generator for a $1,000.00. That plus the gasoline for 3 or 4 days, a chain to protect the generator from theft, and a new supply of food, leaves Cheryl in debt for about $1,500.00--a large amount for a woman who's devoted her adult life to helping people in need in Chicagoland.
Cheryl has worked at CRA for over 30 years. In 1993, my husband, Dan Bigg hired Cheryl and her former husband, Michael, as CRA's first employees to provide harm reduction outreach with syringe access here. Cheryl is known across the country and throughout the City as a passionate and dedicated advocate for people who use drugs, many chaotically, who depend on CRA to provide life-saving services. She is particularly known for her kind and loving relationships among the folks accessing CRA's services and fiery speeches advocating public health efforts.
On her days off, what will you find Cheryl doing?! You will find Cheryl watching her 3 young great-grandchildren and cooking Sunday Dinner for her large family.
Before COVID 19, Sundays were reserved for afternoons at Church which she sorely misses.
Please help us help our colleague and friend, Cheryl Hull. She's been an inspiration to me and many others. I'd love to see her catch a break.
