I’m Matt Garvey, and this is my GoFundMe page.

“My GoFundMe page” there’s a phrase I didn’t envision ever writing.

Up until roughly a month ago, there was nothing that could have produced the need.

I have three healthy children, Thank God, and everything else was details.

I work at Hill-Murray School, where I tutor a little, teach a little, coach football and softball, help with DECA and never forget, I work in the greatest environment ever known.

Outside of that, my kiddos (Jack-senior, Josh-sophomore, Joy-8th Grade) are active little folks who, in turn, make me an active little folk. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am blessed with the three most amazing people I will ever have the chance to know. They have interests and activities, plans, schemes and some good ideas, they have friends, they have days that soar and days that break my heart. Every day they make me proud. And, every day they make me want to do better.

Over Christmas Break, I found myself alarmingly short of breath. I explained it away as a virus or cold and headed back into school after the New Year figuring I was free and clear. By early February, I knew something was up.

I never did much in the way of check-ups; I always figured that when I needed to go to the doctor, I would know.

So, in a way, my approach worked.

From there, long story short, several appointments indicated this was more than remnants of a virus.

Very sobering conversation with the surgeon about Aortic Aneurysm Repair and, like that, my open-heart surgery was scheduled.

I have good insurance and for roughly 20 years, I’ve been just pure profit.

But now, I humbly ask for help. I am asking for enough to help cover the costs of the appointments, the surgery and the hospital stay. I want to maintain what I have as my oldest heads off to college, to ensure that everything goes as close to planned as intended.
