Majd Alla: A Chance to Survive — A Student’s Plea from Gaza

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Iria. I am from Edinburgh and I am raising funds to help my friend Majd and his family survive the genocide in Gaza. Here are his words:

What Remains of a Dream — A Student’s Plea from Gaza

My name is Majd, a final-year biomedical engineering student from Gaza.
I once dreamed of discovering the meaning behind meaning —
through designing devices that save lives,
through creating something that could bring a smile to a stranger’s face.
But today, I am the one who needs saving.

We are a family of eight.
Since October 7, we have lost everything:
My father needs urgent heart surgery, which is unavailable in Gaza.
My mother, a teacher, no longer has a school to teach in.
My siblings — who once dreamed of becoming doctors and engineers —
now have no classrooms, no books, no future in sight.

The war hasn’t only destroyed buildings — it has crushed our future and buried hope under the rubble.
It didn’t stop at stealing our dreams and goals, or turning our path into something unrecognizable.
It took from us our travel companions, our neighbors, our uncles, our loved ones.
We became strangers in our own land, searching for each other in the emptiness,
gathering the broken pieces of what remains of our memories.

We sleep to the sound of bombs and wake not knowing if we’ll survive another day.
Even the most basic necessities have become luxuries:
a bag of flour that once cost $10 is now sold on the black market for $300 —
an impossible price for people who are simply trying to eat.

Each day, the gap widens between who I wanted to become and who I am now.
And in that gap, depression deepens — like a well growing darker and deeper,
a void I fear falling into.
I live in a place where hope doesn’t grow, and fear doesn’t die — it only expands.
And still, I write…
because writing gives me a small space in this world where I can still protect myself.

This fundraiser does not ask for comfort — only for survival:

food and clean water

a safe place to live

a secure future for my family and me

critical medical care for my father

You are not just helping one person — you are helping an entire family trying to stay standing amid collapse.
A family that believes if a human being can live with dignity, they can rebuild everything.

Help me find a chance — or help this message reach someone who can.
From Gaza, from what’s left of my heart — thank you.
