Roman and Maizey are a loving, hardworking couple, who like all of us, are just doing their best to get by. As a young couple in the first year of their marriage the challenges faced by Maizey and Roman have been shattering. Since a young girl the biggest wish of Maizey’s was to become a mother. Maizey’s pregnancy was extremely difficult due to an incompetent cervix that required 2 surgeries and hospital bed rest on monitors. Given her difficult, high-risk pregnancy, it was mandatory for Maizey to take leave from work and short-term disability soon ran out, leaving them a one income couple. In the midst of all of this, Maizey’s beloved dog contracted Parvovirus. Emergency vet treatment to save the dog’s life resulted in an $8200 vet bill. The loss of this dog would have surely been the breaking point for Maizey, so it was absolutely necessary to save her life. #lovemydog.

After 2 miscarriages, little Lorenzo was born on July 6th.

Lorenzo was born very premature at 28 weeks, weighing 2lbs 15oz, and facing extreme challenges. He was on a continuous ventilator and had to be transferred to Riley Hospital at 6 days old when he developed E.coli meningitis.

Uncontrolled seizures soon developed and an MRI revealed severe brain damage with little to no hope for any quality of life. The heartbreaking, difficult decision was made to transition his care and we sadly lost our little man this week on September 11th to fly with the angels. Maizey never left his side in his short 2 months with us and she and Roman are beyond devastated.

Due to the loss of income and astronomical medical and vet bills (that are already coming in), Maizey and Roman are facing crushing financial hardship. They are taking a short time off work to grieve and begin healing but the burden is so great that recovery will be years coming.
