22k walk for Maisie

Maisie’s family set up The Maisie Tothill Foundation after she suffered a catastrophic epileptic seizure in her sleep in January 2019 at just 22.

In January 2023, it will be four years since we lost Maisie, however, the daily struggle is still as raw.

As part of our continuous fight to raise awareness of SUDEP, The Maisie Tothill Foundation members (including Maisie's family) are doing a 22k walk on 22.10.2022. We will leave Leigh Station at 10:22am, walking along the seafront to Shoebury and returning to Leigh.

We chose this day to tie in with SUDEP action day on 19th October 2022.

SUDEP action day is a global day dedicated to raising awareness of epilepsy deaths. It shines a light on the most significant cause of death in people with epilepsy, helping empower people through increased awareness and raising funds for SUDEP research.

It is a subject that is not really spoken of, but there are at least 1000 epilepsy-related deaths each year in the UK (most likely many more than that), and no less than 50% of those deaths are due to Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). Although the stats are so high, the causes of SUDEP are still unknown, which is why we work so hard in Maisie's name - so that her death is not in vain.

Every pound towards our cause helps to make a difference for everyone affected by SUDEP.
