Maintenance Treatment for Breast Cancer

Hi, I'm Amanda. I was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer in March 2019 and went through chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. 5 years later, I am probably still in remission, though we have some spots that we are monitoring over time to make sure there are no changes. It is a huge maybe that I live with and I accept whatever is to come. At this point, I don't care how long I live. I just want quality and peace in my life and to follow my dreams.

I really needed to fundraise upon initial diagnosis as cancer is life changing and is the reason I may never be able to buy a house. It has drained me financially. However, I was encouraged to keep this struggle private and work more hours than healthy to pay for treatment.

With that said, I will be on some sort of treatment indefinitely at this point to hopefully keep me in remission. All of this treatment is incredibly expensive, even with good insurance.

In 2024, my insurance policy jumped from around $330 a month to over $700 a month. My lupron injections went from $30 every 3 months to over $500. With the spots we are watching, I am now having expensive scans every 4-6 months to watch for changes. The MRI is the priciest of all. Plus infusions 2x a year with Zometa.

Treatment has caused many side effects and triggers for my auto-immune diseases. This has created quite the expense with more and more medical intervention needed. I've also had to postpone appointments and treatments for other diseases because I can no longer afford to treat everything.

I am projecting to pay between $15,000-$20,000 a year just for the basics. More if more intervention is needed.

Basically, funds raised here, if any, would go toward existing medical debt, insurance premiums, co-pays, pto so I can recover from treatments, caregiver services, medical transport, etc
