The CRTT (Croesor -Rhosydd Through Trip) as been a popular adventure for cavers and mine explorers for decades with 1,000's of people taking on the challenge and, thanks to Social Media, the trip sees more and more visitors every year. As such, the in-situ aids require constant maintenance and repairs.
As it stands, no one person or organisation is responsible for installing, maintaining, modifying or replacing any of the equipment within the mines.
Due to the volume of traffic the trip sees, there is a degree of maintenance that has to be carried out to provide a level of safety, which includes replacing ropes, cables and anchors.
Although there is no fee to enter or use the equipment, I am setting up this Gofundme account to allow anyone who would like to donate some money towards the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of the equipment installed through the mines. This is purely voluntary, but any donation will be gratefully accepted to help with this task.
Having been a regular visitor to this trip for 20+ years, I have carried out a degree of maintenance throughout the mine, replacing various gear as it reached the end of its life or became too dangerous to use.
No-one has asked me to do this, I chose to get involved as it appeared no-one else was doing it and I was concerned that the increasing traffic would eventually lead to someone getting injured. This does not mean I have taken any responsibility for the quality, suitability or safety of the equipment within the mines, or liability for the safety of anyone who chooses to use the equipment, IT IS THE FULL RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERYONE who decides to enter the mines to check the condition and suitability of any equipment they decide to use, and that using the existing equipment is entirely at their own risk.
If you feel any of the existing equipment is unsafe DO NOT USE IT.
You have the choice to abandon your trip at any time and return the way you entered.
You also have the choice to install and use your own equipment.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT EQUIPMENT AND THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE OF HOW TO USE IT SAFELY.
With that said, I hope you have a safe and fun experience and thank you in advance for any donation you feel is appropriate.
If you find any issues with the in-situ equipment, please provide feedback on this site so it can be tended to.
Thanks.
