Maintenance of Cappella Ave Maria, Monteleone
Donation protected
This donation is in honour of Michael (Michele) Morra.
The Cappella, located in Monteleone di Puglia, is dear to Michael's heart and holds much significance to him and his extended family.
Beata Vergine del Carmine Cappella was built between 1925 and 1930 by Pasquale Morra, Michael's great grandfather's brother, in honor of Pasquale's apparition of the Virgin Mary for whom he credits saving his life during World War 1.
It is also known as Cappella Ave Maria.
From the early 1960s until 1989, the Cappella was looked after by Giuseppe and Maria Filomena Morra, Michael's parents. It has continued to be looked after by Santino
Russo and his wife, Maria Morra. They have dedicated time and money to restoring the Cappella to its original beauty so that it can be enjoyed and honoured by all.
In honour of the Virgin Mary, an annual procession moves from Piazza Municipio, in the centre of Monteleone, towards the chapel (approx 3.5 km). Many people take to the streets to participate in this event. The wooden sculpture, dating back to the twentieth century, represents Mary, holding her child in her arms, holding the Holy Scapular, a sign of health, protection and beauty.
We greatly appreciate your donation, which will be used for the continued maintenance of the Cappella.
Thank you.
