Maintain Hope - Lugnaquilla Challenge
Who we are and what we do. Maintain Hope is a non-profit, community based direct aid organisation.
What do we do??
We fund and support education from pre-school right up to college, university and adult education level. We provide schoolbooks, uniforms, school shoes, tools and other necessary items to maximise opportunities for success in education and in employment. We pay for the necessary school transport and accommodation when necessary.
We pay for necessary medication for short-term illnesses and longer term issues. We provide medical screening for common childhood diseases when necessary.
We supply and deliver food to families in need.
We visit families and checking on the welfare of children and giving emotional support.
We collaborate with Comhlamh using the 'Children's First' report as a guide to our work.
We promote a more modern approach to supporting
Kenyans via the following tenets:
Supporting children in family settings rather than residential care homes where possible.
Reuniting children who were in residential care with family members where possible.
Promoting sustained local-based support systems rather than short-term overseas volunteer programmes.
Building relationships with various Kenyan authorities, social workers and our 'Ray of Hope' representatives to ensure consistent support.
