Six years ago, a group of local artists came together to pool their talents and passion for mentoring and empowering youth with their desire to see more youth art programs made accessible to the community. In the first year we launched, we nearly tripled the number of students we had after the very first day, simply from word-of-mouth. We may have been in over our heads that day, but we knew it meant that our program was meeting a significant need in Worcester. Over the years since then, we have watched this experiment transform, with the efforts of dozens of community volunteers, into an annual tradition and later into a nonprofit organization called Main IDEA (Render Creative Inc.).
With August just around the corner, Main IDEA is thrilled to be hosting our 7th Annual Summer Arts Program! This FREE, one-week program is offered to youth ages 8–12 in the Main South neighborhood of Worcester, MA. We partner with local artists, businesses, and organizations to offer a variety of art disciplines: Music, Creative Drama, Creative Writing, Dance, and Visual Art.
The neighborhood we work in, Main South, is one of the most densely populated neighborhoods with the lowest income and highest crime rates in Worcester. According to our research, approximately 63% of the students of the Main South schools we work with are economically disadvantaged, and 59% of them are English Language Learners. Although they face steep challenges, we know that our kids are capable of great success.
We were so thankful and humbled to be the recipients of Worcester Ware's & Pow! Wow! Worcester's Annual ArtRaiser last September, an event that provided us with a significant portion of funding for this year's program! We are now much closer to reaching the goal for our 2017 Summer Program budget, which would allow us to run the Program at its fullest potential, and it is our deepest hope that you will help get us there!
As a thank you for your donation, we are offering different rewards, depending on the amount given. *Please note that all donors MUST provide their mailing address to receive full benefits (and also so that we can send you a donor receipt and a proper thank you!).*
