Mailess' Treatment

Hello,
I’m writing you all today to ask for help. In Zambia, my dear friend and amama, Mailess, has fallen critically ill. Her kidneys are failing and she desperately needs to start dialysis as soon as possible. I am attempting to connect her to a foundation or nonprofit organization that can properly support her with longer term medical care, but as it can sometimes be a frustratingly difficult and lengthy process to do so, I am hoping to buy her some time, perhaps six months, until we can find suitable assistance. The next six months could be the difference between life and death. Mailess, a widow and mother of four children, has dedicated her life to her community, in particular its children. She has taught classes (for little to no compensation) for elementary age children in her community who cannot afford the uniform to go to a local school. She has used her position as a teacher and mentor to encourage young girls in Zambia to pursue education before marriage, to be self sufficient, and to recognize and cherish just how special and unique and valuable each of them are, which is a message they might not hear for the rest of their lives. Her patience and generosity knows no bounds. When I lived in Zambia, she took me in as a daughter. She took care of me when I was sick and they thought I had malaria, she comforted me as I grieved for the children in my class who only got one meal a day at school. She taught me how an avocado tree grows, how to save seeds for next years harvest, how to care for loved ones and how to expand the definition of family beyond flesh and blood. She taught me what pure generosity and compassion looks like, and I owe a lot to Mailess for who I am today. I know I’m just one of her many students that she has touched with her kindness and unwavering faith in what is good, but I am forever grateful to her for what she has done for me, and I am trying to help give something back. Please, if you are able, help me provide assistance to this woman who has given herself fully to the people around her without fail or complaint. Thank you so very much.
