Maile’s Medical Expenses and Recovery

Hi everyone! My name is Kylie, and I am starting this to help my sister Maile and her family after having been through some tough times in the last couple of weeks. I’m hoping to assist and help get them back on their feet through this recovery process.

On January 8th, Maile went to the hospital for excruciating abdominal pain, where they did a number of tests to find that she needed to have her gallbladder removed due to gallstones and that it was barely functioning. Unfortunately, upon removal, her pain continued and increased, and after a long waiting period, she received another test showing that 2 of the gallstones were now obstructing her duct. After finding out this news, she was placed on a waiting list to get transferred to another hospital to perform the procedure to remove the stones, in which they waited a whole week in the hospital being monitored. She finally got transferred to another hospital in town to have the procedure the following day, but unfortunately it was unsuccessful. Another waiting game began and she was transferred and flown to a hospital in Portland to try to remove the stones again, in which we are hoping will finally be successful.

Through this whole experience, Maile and her husband, Kevin, have been away from their little girl, Kinsley, which has been so hard on their family. Not only this, but they are small business owners of a little coffee shop in the town of Talent, and have both been unable to work during this entire time. Their employees have been wonderful in covering as much time as they can, picking up the hours that Maile and Kevin would usually be working, but the loss of income for their little business in the last 2 weeks of being in the hospital will be tough, on top of the medical bills for tests, procedures, multiple ambulance transports, and a medical flight.

Anyone that knows this family knows they are the hardest workers, and their little girl is their everything. As small business owners, I cannot imagine the toll this will take on them, and all I could want for them is to finally be back home with their little girl and for my sister to be better. The recovery process will still be a lot, as Maile will not be able to work right away, so I am asking for any support that anyone may be able to provide for their family.

Whether you decide to donate, or just keep them in your prayers, all the love and support is so appreciated and needed. Thank you for taking the time to help my sister and her family get back on their feet!

Update 1/26: After being discharged Saturday evening and being home for one night, Maile was back in the hospital in Medford on Monday, and will be there for the time being. She is currently fighting an infection, and had some more imaging showing some damage to her small intestine. Doctors are just monitoring her for now, hoping that things will heal on their own with time while managing her pain and keeping her on antibiotics, and praying to not have to intervene surgically. We are not sure how long she will be there, but please continue to keep them in your thoughts❤️
