The Maidstone Model Engineering Society , based in Mote Park since 1949, has recently been on the receiving end of a small amount of vandalism, unfortunately with expensive consequences. The roof of the club building has been damaged beyond sensible repair and as such we are having to look to replace the entire roof. This is going to cost us in the region of £10,000, we do have enough in reserve to be able to put forward half of this straight away. With the COVID-19 situation we were not able to undertake any form of passenger hauling this year and as such we have not had any income for 2020 although our expenses remained almost unchanged. Had it not been for the lack of income, we may have been able to scrape together enough to cover this unexpected cost.
We are looking to try to fund £5000 to help us to replace the roof on the main club building.
We would be so grateful if anybody was able to help us, our volunteers have endeavoured to provide a service to the public over the last 70 years, only charging enough to cover our costs (hence no real savings) and it would be such a shame for us to be forced into closure from this incident. None of our staff are paid whilst giving their time and run their own locos (which must then be maintained at their own expense) purely as a part of their hobby.
